The data set "rural_employment_area.shp" is one of many data sets that together comprise Schedule 1 - Map 'A' - Regional Structure, of Durham Region's Official Plan (OP). The data set "rural_employment_area.shp" is one of several data sets used in Durham Region's Official Plan (OP). As part of the spatially enabled OP, "rural_employment_area.shp" is used along with other OP data sets in planning decisions that may affect OP policies, review and amendments. Rural employment area 4 is, as of the date of writing, deferred for further consideration, and may be in the future deleted as a REA.  905-728-7731 905-436-6612 ESRI ArcCatalog 9.3.1.4000 Personal GeoDatabase Feature Class Paper maps of the rural employment areas (REA)'s, taken from Durham Region (the region)'s Official Plan was used along with the old REA's digital data layer as a basis to create this updated REA's data layer. Other references used were the region's parcel fabric (originally created by Teranet), road network (originally created by Digital Mapping Technologies Inc.), drainage (originally created by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources), and orthophotography (originally created by First Base Solutions) of the member municipalities as references. The ArcMap component of ESRI's ArcGIS 8.2 Geographic Information System (GIS) software was used to create this data. Some of the REA's were created by employing ArcMap's Trace tool, which allows the user to "trace" a new line exactly over an existing line. Polylines comprising the REA boundary were selected and then traced over to create a "sketch", which when closed, would then be finished to create a new polygon. The trace tool was used when the boundary of the REA consisted of several whole or partial land parcels. If the REA boundary was identical to a parcel boundary, then the polygon representing the parcel boundary was simply copied to the new REA data layer.
