Description: The Lake Simcoe Protection Act Watershed Boundary (LSPAWB) was created to support the Lake Simcoe Protection Act. This boundary has been clipped to the Regional Municipality of Durham's boundary. ROP Consolidation September 3, 2024.The Lake Simcoe Protection Act Watershed Boundary (LSPAWB) was created to support the Lake Simcoe Protection Act. The boundary was first created by the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) in 2005 as part of a Source Water Protection boundary project using the LSRCA 2002 5-meter Digital Elevation Model (DEM) and the best available data at the time. The portions of the watershed where the boundary shared a border with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) and the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA) were manually reviewed and updated though a series of consultations between agencies. The boundary was created in ArcHydro.

Description: Enhancement opportunity areas are areas identified by the conservation authorities as "targeted areas" for restoration/stewardship initiatives that if restored would positively contribute to the natural heritage system. ROP Consolidation September 3, 2024.This layer was created using the Conservation Authority's "targeted NHS" datasets. These datasets were merged together and flattened into one feature. Any areas which fell within the Seaton boundary were removed. Any areas which were already covered by Durham Region's Draft Regional NHS were also removed.

Description: An individual spatial polygon represents a discrete wetland type. Values for wetland types are marsh, fen, swamp, bog, treed peatland, open water or unknown. Evaluated Wetlands are those identified and assessed using the technical criteria in the OWES manuals. An evaluation may be for either an Evaluated Wetland or an Evaluated Wetland Complex. Not all wetlands in Ontario have been evaluated. An Evaluated Wetland consists of one or more adjacent (contiguous) wetland polygons. An Evaluated Wetland Complex is a group of separated wetland polygons that have similar or complementary biological, social and/or hydrological functions, are located in close proximity, and are functionally linked (ecologically or hydrologically). An Evaluated Wetland Complex may contain adjacent wetland polygons but must comprise at least one separated wetland polygon. Wetlands that meet certain criteria through OWES are designated as PSWs. ROP Consolidation September 3, 2024.The Wetland data class provides a spatial representation and attribute information for wetlands in Ontario. Wetlands are lands that are seasonally or permanently flooded by shallow water as well as lands where the water table is close to the surface; in either case the presence of abundant water causes the formation of hydric (moist) soils and has favoured the dominance of either hydrophytic (water loving) or water tolerant plants.

Description: Cartographic watercourse layer, based off of MNRF's OHN Watercourse layer. Watercourse are line features (natural and constructed) that describe various realizations of flowing water at a medium scale of 1:10K in Southern Ontario ROP Consolidation September 3, 2024.Using MNRF's OHN Watercourse layer (scale of 1:10K in Southern Ontario), the smoothing tool was applied with a Bezier curve, to produce a cartographic watercourse layer. Additional edits were made by the Region of Durham DMG Department for watercourses within the Urban River Valley areas (from Greenbelt 2017). These edits were to ensure the cartographic watercourse would remain within the limits of the Urban River Valley areas (as the process of smoothing the watercourse adjust the location of the linework in some places).

Description: Polyline to show that areas below (south) of the line are considered to be areas which are 'downgradient' of municipal wells. ROP Consolidation September 3, 2024.WHPA-Q Downgradient Line DeterminationConsiderations (in order of priority)The “Downgradient Line” cannot cross any of WHPA-A, B, C, D, E, or F. By definition, flow in the aquifer reaches the well(s) in any of these locations. Therefore, recharge in these WHPAs cannot be considered as being downgradient in the absence of updated numerical modelling. The “Downgradient Line” must take into account the regional groundwater flow directions in the Oak Ridges, Thorncliffe, and Scarborough Aquifers, because all three aquifers are utilized for groundwater supplies. The downgradient line should avoid sharp bends and curves, since groundwater flow generally does not behave that way.If the downgradient line is close to a municipal boundary, and can be shifted such that the municipality is excluded, without compromising any of the above considerations, the line should be moved accordingly. If the downgradient line is close to an approved settlement area, and can be shifted such that the settlement area is excluded, without compromising any of the above considerations, the line should be moved accordingly. If the downgradient line bisects a property boundary, and can be shifted such that a property can be excluded without compromising any of the above considerations, the line should be moved accordingly. *NOTE: this line was revised April, 2021 after amendments that incorporated new technical work at Aurora Well 7 were completed. The new technical work resulted in the WHPA-D zone extending south over the previous WHPA-Q downgradient Line.
